2006

It all started with a seed...

In the spring of 2006 a WHRC tenant remarked how nice it would be to have a garden and that some neighbourhoods have a community garden. Not long after that we had permission to use the neighbouring property. With staff support, a financial donation, a design team, and tenant gardeners, the building began.

Before end of May the garden beds were ready for planting and there was a waiting list of interested gardeners.

And as you can see, despite the dry summer, the garden has flourished. This year the gardeners are harvesting not only fresh produce but new friendships and a greater sense of community.
